♒ Corner betting has surged in popularity worldwide, offering in-depth markets that are both dynamic and ideal for single bets or bet builders, trackable through stats. Craving more? How about a complete guide taking you through all you need to know!

It’s more a question of why not! Corner markets are ever-growing, versatile, and can provide great betting opportunity🌸 when done right. The markets are all centred around football corner kicks; whether it is the total number, the frequency, or a head-to-head, there's lots to bet on.

The best part is that corners are very easily tracked♛, which means that you can spot patterns and consistencies. For example, if two teams that tend to have a high number of corners are playing against each other, it’s likely that they’ll get a corner. Some teams might even tactically look out for corners, boasting set piece specialists in their ranks.

All of this can be found out with stats and a bit of research.

♔ You might be thinking — how are these bookies ranked? Well, first we test the sites out to get the best feel possible. Once all the data is compiled, we compare the pros and cons to give you our honest opinions and top picks.

ꦕ The humble corner has been relatively unchanged since its introduction in 1868. Less can be said about the betting market, which has exploded over the years! You can now find dozens of different related markets, each with their own nuances.

🍷 Below is a comprehensive list of markets, with a few corner kick betting tips thrown in for good measure.

Total Corners Over/Under

✃ The go-to corner bet for most punters, an over/under is when you place a bet on whether there will be more or fewer corners than a number set by the bookie. The total number is both team's corners combined, so in an over 12 corner bet, whether it’s 12-1 or 7-7 corners, both are winning scores.

Most Corners in a Football Match

ꦚ As simple as it gets, all you need to do is guess which team will have the most corners. Picking teams that tend to dominate matches will give you correct results, but lower odds. In evenly contested matches, finding which team has the highest average from previous matches could be key.

Corners in the First 10 Minutes

ꦯ This is another over/under corner bet which — you guessed it — is limited to the first 10 minutes. It's perfect for punters who like quick bets, as it literally only lasts 10 minutes. Some bookies even offer ‘yes’ or ‘no’ corner bets for the first minute.

First-Half/Second-Half Corners

ꦫ The market is an over/under for each half of the match. It may be tough to predict, but stats may show you trends, such as which half normally features the most corners. In-play corner betting could be great for the second half, as if a team is losing, they may push further forward for a win.

First/Last Corner of a Football Match

ꦰ Fun and unpredictable, betting on the first corner could happen in 30 seconds or 30 minutes, and by either team. On the other hand, a last corner could be the last kick of the game. Corner stats can help you figure out which teams tend to play better at the start or at the end of a match.

Corner Handicap

Handicap betting levels out the playing field, giving underdogs the chance to win over/under bets, and providing the better sides with greater odds. Asian corner bettingꦰ is commonly found in the form of handicaps. This is yet another way to give yourself a better chance of increasing the value of your winning bets.

Corners Race

ꦯ Niche is the word on this one. Very few bookies offer it, but if you find some that do, it’s always worth a punt. All you need to do is select which team will reach a certain number of corners first. Stats can play a huge role, as some teams tend to prefer keeping the ball in play and reaching fewer corners.

Corners Range

𝕴 An alternative to over/unders, here you need to predict the range of corners which will occur in a match. Again, stats are the way to go to get a good average for each match. This is another bet that isn’t found often.

ꦛ The age-old question: to wait or not to wait? There are several good arguments to be made on both sides of whether to bet before a match or wait until it starts. Let's go through them.

Markets

ꦕ If you want a wide range of markets, pre-game is the way to go as there are many more options to choose from. This is mostly thanks to the abundance of quick markets, such as first minute/ first 10-minute corner bets, which cannot be bet on in-play.

Odds

✅ This is tricky. On the one hand, pre match odds are quite good, as they aren’t affected by the number of corners taken. On the other, in-play odds shift depending on the time of a match and the occurrences that already took place. This could lead to some great odds to exploit. Leave it late and you could win a fine penny if teams are pushing forward or defending heavily.

Form vs Performance

As far as information goes, pre-game bets can be backed up by form and corner betting statistics. While that's quite good, it still doesn't compare to actually watching a team play and making bets based on that. So, in-play might be ideal in this case — as long as you’re livestream betting.

Pre-Game vs In-Play Betting Strategies

If you want to up your corner betting game, you need to start using some betting strategies💦. These come in all shapes and sizes, and can vary wildly depending on whether you're betting pre-game or in-play. This is mainly down to the information you have at the time. In each case, there are a few things to examine.

Pre-Game Corner Betting: What To Consider

Stats, stats, and more stats — it’s all you've got when betting pre-game, but it can be more than enough to make some valuable bets. Firstly, find some comprehensive corner stats🌠. Here's what you can keep in mind to extract the best information from those statistics.

Team strengthꦿ: In general, the strongest team is likely to dominate possession, push forward, and put their opponents in a position to concede corners. Once you figure out which team is stronger (often the ones with shorter odds), there are a few more things you can look out for:

  • List Icon

Formꦛ: How well is the team doing? A team might be much stronger home than away, or the other way round. This could indicate whether they feel comfortable playing in front of their supporters and how sharp they will play in such circumstances. This leads to conceding more or fewer corners.

  • List Icon

Attacking output🍰: If one team is consistently playing in their opponent’s final third, they’re more likely to produce more corners. As an example, for the 23/24 season, Manchester United may not have great shot stats, but do have excellent corner stats — mainly due to their constant attacking involvement.

  • List Icon

Shots𒁏: Shots are one of the most common ways for corners to come about, often because of a deflection or a goalkeeper’s save. Thus, if a team averages a high number of shots per game, they’re more likely to have a higher number of corners.

Weaker teams♕: Don’t write off the weaker team just yet, as their information is just as valuable when betting on corners.

  • List Icon

Style of play🍒: Weaker teams often need to be more disciplined in order not to concede their opponents with space to play. For instance, if a team plays narrowly, they’re more likely to send their opponents through the wings, increasing the likelihood of corners through blocked crosses and shots.

  • List Icon

Defensive line🤪: If a team is much weaker and appears to have no chance of hurting the other side, they may just decide to park the bus. Consequently, this might lead to fewer shots, and therefore fewer corners from their opposition.

  • List Icon

Too defensive🐲: If a team sits back and soaks up too much pressure, they may be susceptible to getting overwhelmed. As the clock runs by and the fatigue adds up, players’ concentration and strength will drop, which may lead to more corners and possibly more goals.

Author Opinion

🐟It’s clear to see that team strength makes a massive difference. In the 23/24 season, Man City averaged 4.8 corners against teams in the top four but averaged nine against the bottom three teams. I would find opportunities where stronger teams face much weaker ones. Be sure to check out formations and possible styles of playing, as they can also play a massive role.

In-Play Corner Betting: What To Consider

ꦚ In-play betting strategies can get a lot more complicated as there are so many factors which could affect a match. But where to start?

Firstly, are you watching it on a livestream or just analysing live stats? Livestream betting🐠 is by far the best way to go, as you can see every event unfolding. When watching a match, these are a few things you should look out for:

  • List Icon

Who’s coming out swinging?♔ In the first ten minutes or so, has any team made it clear that they’re in charge? These teams will likely keep up the pressure and momentum, potentially leading to more corners for them. You might want to place a handicap bet here.

  • List Icon

Weather🍸: The weather can play a massive role in football, as a wet pitch makes the ball glide more, while strong winds could change the ball’s direction. This makes football unpredictable, causing players to exert more effort. Some players might get tired sooner, leading to defensive errors and consequently providing more corner opportunities.

  • List Icon

Style of play🤪: If a weaker team is just booting the ball out of their area, they’ll likely face more opposition than if they play it out. This will, in turn, lead to some inevitable corners.

Author Opinion

Whenever I bet in-play, the most important thing I do is watch the match, as this always gives me the best insight possible. I look out for a team’s style, and if there’s a team who clearly wants to win it more. What I never do, though, is forget about the weaker team – their structure and defensive attitude during a match could increase or decrease the chances of corners.

If there’s one thing we mentioned as many times as corners, it’s stats. We get it, stats are important — but where can we get them from? Well, we’ve got you covered with one of the most comprehensive corner stats pages you’ll ever see.

💦 The database has much to offer, boasting 43 leagues and 32 cup competitions, including the top six tiers of English football. It’s excellent for comparisons; simply filter by current or previous season, home or away matches, and specific teams.

ꦛ If you haven’t already gone running to check out our stats page, here’s a rundown of all the metrics available:

Total Corners

꧂ The number of corners varies due to playing style or tactics, as well as their level when compared to opposition.

Just look at last season’s total corners stats, notice anything familiar? In the Premier League♐, the top six teams to have 80% or more of matches with over 8.5 corners were: Liverpool & Tottenham, mid-table Man United and Bournemouth, as well as relegated sides Burnley and Luton.

🐓 Clearly, the top teams are winning the most corners, while the bottom teams are conceding the most corners. For reference, Manchester City, Arsenal, and Sheffield all finished with 74% of matches featuring over 8.5 corners. See these and other stats below.

Total Team Corners

✅ The total team corners are just an over/under for individual teams. It’s a great market for sides that you know will be creating chances, or for those who won’t have a lot of time on the ball, if you’re betting unders.

ಌ Stats play an even bigger role here, as the team's data will reflect the likely outcome with more accuracy. Looking through last season’s stats, it’s clear that the biggest teams win the most corners. The top teams with over 5.5 corners per game were Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal, and Leverkusen. No surprise, but in this case, only the English clubs have managed this for more than 50% of matches.

On the flip side, the ‘over 5.5 corners against' paints a predictable picture as well. The six teams with the most corners against were Salernitana, Man United, Forest, Empoli, Sheffield, and Luton — all of which finished in the bottom four of their respective leagues, except for Manchester United.

Corners Handicap

Corner handicap betting is a ‘most corners’ bet type that evens out the playing field, adding a + or – score at the start of a match. This means that if there is a mismatch, say Liverpool vs Ipswich, you can still bet on Ipswich to get more corners, as they’ll begin the match with a plus two corner head start.

♒ Surely, stats can’t help us here — our stats table below will show you how many times a team has won the most corners when faced with a +1 or -1 starting count.

🎉 For example, Fiorentina had a 53% win rate with a -1 handicap, but they top the charts with an 84% win rate with a +1 handicap. Clearly, you can get a lot out of handicap betting if you know where to look, and our statistics are a good place to start.

Both Teams Over Corners

👍 It’s another over/under, but both teams individually need to reach the amount you’ve chosen. This is often lower, and finding matches that are evenly contested could be your best bet.

🅺 So, in this case, you’ll be looking for matches like Newcastle vs Tottenham, which are less likely to be dominated by one team. If you’re placing an over bet, you can go for over 3.5 and hope that each team gets at least four corners apiece. Unders, of course, work in the same way.

🔥 When looking through stats, you can find a few key pieces of data which, when interpreted right, can be supremely valuable. For instance, if you look at home vs away, Man United, Luton, and Burnley all reached over 3.5 corners in at least 63% of matches. United reached 63% in away matches, but Luton and Burnley couldn't even muster 50%.

Research Historical Data

🎃 Think of data as a jigsaw puzzle — the more pieces you connect, the clearer the image will get. Historical data may not seem as vital, but it can be a pretty good indicator of future seasons, barring any radical changes to a team.

Statistical Analysis From League to League

🌳 If there’s one thing you can learn from the Champions League and failed transfers, it’s that every league is different. Be it the defensive playing style of the Serie A, the physicality of the Prem, or the passing play in La Liga, each has its own style and tactics, which will contribute to corner betting.

꧂ Getting a better idea of each league will increase your chances of finding a top-quality betting opportunity, so here’s a quick rundown on each of the top leagues.

English Premier League Corner Stats

🌄 The physicality and pace of the Premier League — the biggest league in the world in many respects — often leads to more corners. In fact, across the top five leagues last season, six out of 10 teams with the most corners were English.

One look at the Premier League🍨 corner stats, and instantly, you can see a pattern form. The teams who finished in the top five of the 2023/24 season took up the top six spaces in the corner per game stats — every team averaged over six per game. It’s the same story on the other end of the table.

♏ One anomaly is Bournemouth, who averaged 6.18 corners per game, finishing fourth in the charts. Looking deeper into this, the metrics mostly came about from Bournemouth’s wide style of play.

English Championship Corner Stats

The Championship is considered one of the most unpredictable and underrated leagues in the world of football, and the corner stats reflect this completely. Just to give you an idea of the randomness, here are the top six teams in terms of corners, and their league standing: 1. Southampton – 4th, 2. Coventry City – 9th, 3. Sunderland – 16th, 4. Leeds United – 3rd, 5. Middlesbrough – 8th, 6. Stoke City – 17th.

ꩲ It’s a bit of a Wild West, isn’t it? This ‘non-pattern’ shows that corner stats are more related to style rather than strength. You can see this when looking through each team's playing style, since teams at the top of the corner stats have used a front three, with focus on width, while the bottom teams often opted for a central front two.

English League One Corner Stats

The third division of English football, League One🍌 is a great mix of up-and-coming teams, as well as falling giants, leading to some entertaining matchups.

🔜 It’s slightly more predictable here, though, with the three teams with the highest average corners per game all making the playoffs or automatic promotion spots.

🅰 The style of play is still a major factor. In fact, all the top teams played with a form of front three, except Barnsley, who preferred a front two. As the stats show, Barnsley (finishing 6th) placed 11th in corners due to this. Oxford also seems like an outlier, but they sometimes started a front two or changed position mid-match.

Scottish Premiership Corner Stats

You won’t win any prizes for guessing how this list turned out. During the Scottish Premiership🅷 23/24 season, six out of twelve teams had the same ranking for the final league position and the rate of corners per game. The Scottish Premiership may be more predictable, but is it worth punting on?

💙 This league, and many other European Leagues with dominant teams, are surely worth putting on. The odds might not be the best, but the likelihood of better results is much greater.

♌ Celtic and Rangers have topped the charts the last four seasons and, while never a guarantee, betting on them when it comes to corners is clearly worth it.

German Bundesliga Corner Stats

Considered by UEFA as the fourth strongest league, the Bundesliga🍸 is the utopia of football — the 50+1 rule, amazing stadiums, and incredible support all create an atmosphere like no other.

𒁃 Betting on corners is a great option for several reasons. Firstly, there are fewer corners in a match, which means that odds tend to be higher. Secondly, the best teams still average over 8.5 corners in at least two-thirds of their games. Lastly, league finish does normally correlate with the number of corners, with the likes of Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern Munich, and Leipzig finishing in the top four of both tables.

French League 1 Corner Stats

Betting on Ligue 1𝓀 outrights might not be worth placing, with PSG winning 10 of the last 12 league titles. However, corner bets are a different story. Ligue 1 had statistically the lowest average number of corners per game in the 23/24 season, so choosing the right markets to bet on is key.

🦂 With lower numbers of corners come overall higher odds, so finding which clubs create and concede the most corners is a good choice for match corner bets. On the flip side, corner races and most corner markets are great options. Opting for the stronger team, especially if they play with a front three, is normally the right choice.

ꦫ Many teams still play with a front two in Ligue 1, so you might want to try out some under markets rather than over. Odds will likely be less favourable, but the outcome might be more likely.

Spanish La Liga Corner Stats

Another league with relatively low corner stats, La Liga𝔍 is home to some of the best young players in the world, but most teams still prefer the classic front two.

𝓡 This allows betting on corners to become slightly more predictable, with teams like Barcelona, Real Betis, and Athletic Club all having favourable corner stats, thanks to their playing style (4-3-3 / 4-2-3-1).

♌ Nonetheless, dominant teams like Real Madrid still managed to average 5.55 corners per match. Yet again, Barcelona’s average of 6.26 is a testament to the correlation between playing styles and corner stats.

Italian Serie A Corner Stats

A first look at the Serie A corner table might have you thinking — what’s this mess? These are the top five teams for corners and their league finishes: 1. Napoli -6.32 (10th), 2. Inter – 6.00 (1st), 3. Frosinone – 5.61 (18th), 4. Atalanta – 5.53 (4th) and 5. Sassuolo – 5.52 (19th).

♉ This useful information can be interpreted in a few ways. Firstly, you can see that the final Serie A league position doesn’t correspond to the number of corners at all, and this is mainly due to the playing style in calcio.

𓂃 In theory, teams that play mostly down the wings often get more corners. Napoli had both Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Matteo Politano, who absolutely dominated the flanks. Even Sassuolo’s best two players were wingers, so style and team formation clearly play a massive role in corners.

Pos Team %
1 Parma Parma 14/16 87.50
88%
2 Cagliari Cagliari 13/16 81.25
81%
3 Empoli Empoli 13/16 81.25
81%
