Race Structure for the Guineas Festival
൩ Rowley Mile at Newmarket is the setting for the Guineas festival, which sees 14 races taking place over two days. The festival is run in late April or sometimes in early May, heralding the decline of the National Hunt season and the start of the flat racing season in the UK, the latter of which takes place over the summer months.
🧜 The older of the two races, the 2000 Guineas, runs on Saturday, making it the first of the five annual British classic races to be held. Unofficially grouped together with the Derby and the St Leger, this race is the first leg of the three that make up the of flat racing.
🔯 On the immediate Sunday, the second classic of the year, the 1000 Guineas takes place. This race also serves as the first race of the Fillies Triple Crown, which also includes the Epsom Oaks and St Leger from Doncaster. As already mentioned above, the 1000 Guineas and the 2000 Guineas take their name from their original prize funds. Today, both races have the same prize fund of more than £500,000.
🐓 There are five classics in UK horse racing: the 2000 Guineas, the 1000 Guineas, The Derby, The Oaks and the St Leger.
Race Structure for the 2000 Guineas Stakes
🀅 Raced over the famous Rowley Mile, the 2000 Guineas is run over a distance of slightly more than a mile and is considered to be a Group 1 race. It is open to three-year-old colts and fillies. However, participation is rare for the latter, with the last filly to compete having run in 1960.
Race Structure for the 1000 Guineas Stakes
♊ The 1000 Guineas, like its sister race, takes place over the mile-long turf known as the Rowley Mile, which is famously part of the Newmarket race course. It is open to three-year-old fillies exclusively.

Guineas Festival Betting Tips & Predictions 2022
-
Newmarket will take centre-stage for the first classic of the season – the 2000 Guineas – which will be held on Saturday. This will be a star-studded field, and a good place to start is with Native Trail, who towered over his peers last season with four wins on the bounce. Trainer Charlie Appleby will be looking to join the list of illustrious champions, who will maintain his partnership with jockey William Buick. 🦩 about what the weekend has in store, with Native Trail in good form following his victory in the Craven Stakes earlier this month. Currently, he is trading around the EVENS mark with most bookmakers, and he could well justify that short price as the favourite.
-
Appleby’s other runner, Coroebus, is also getting some backing with odds of 4/1 🥂at most leading bookmakers. He is a fascinating prospect and potentially a serious contender, with James Doyle being handed the ride for the Group I mile race. However, he may be pipped to the post by Native Trail.
-
Elsewhere, Dubawi Legend could also spark some interest. He enjoyed an incredible debut last summer as he overpowered the field to storm to a five-length victory at Doncaster, making him another one that you should pay close attention to. Available at 16/1🐲 at most bookies, he could very well end up placing in this race.
-
The 1000 Guineas will be in the spotlight on Sunday, having all the ingredients to be a pulsating race. Although Tenebrism is the favourite with most bookmakers at the 11/2 mark, there has been plenty of backing for Malavath.♌ She has been on an upward trajectory over the past few months, recovering from being a backmarker in the Breeders’ Cup Juveniles Fillies’ Turf at Del Mar to finish second. She also stepped up to the plate when beating Zellie in the French trial at Deauville recently, and she could well be in the mix this weekend.
-
Meanwhile, Mise En Scene is shaping up to be a canny three-year-old, though after claiming wins in her first two starts, her form has drifted a little. Although the Breeders’ Cup may have come around too soon for her, she still has all the attributes to make the transition, and she could be in contention in the 1000 Guineas. Mise En Scene is at a tempting looking price of 11/1 with most bookmakers if you fancy a punt.
-
Although Cachet won on her first outing last year, her Juvenile campaign was relatively quiet. That being said, the only real question mark is her stamina, so the 1,000 Guineas could be a stiff test in this regard – however, she is valued at the 14/1 mark with most bookmakers.

Popular Guineas Festival Betting Markets
♉ As one of the major weekends of British racing, 2000 and 1000 Guineas betting means big business for UK bookmakers. Although the 1000 Guineas is held a day after the 2000 Guineas, you can bet on one or both of these in duel singles or a classic double. You can also enjoy a whole range of betting markets, the most popular of which we have covered below:
Outright Winner Betting
A bet type that is very straightforward, this market involves a single bet on a horse to a win or place. In the case of the 2000 or 1000 Guineas, it is even available as an ante-post bet.
With a single, you place a bet💜 and get paid out according to the odds on the horse you have picked. All that needs to happen for your bet to win is for your selection to be the winning horse in the race or, if you backed the place, to finish in first, second, or third in either the 1000 or 2000 Guineas.
💎 Best 2000 Guineas betting site for outright betting: Betfair
Double Up On Both Betting
For this market, you'll be required to pick the winner of both the 2000 Guineas on Saturday AND the winner of the 1000 Guineas the next day – not in two bets, but in one double.
ཧ A double requires you to win two bets involving as many horses, but for the one stake. Your stake from the 2000 Guineas gets paid to odds, and these winnings make up the stake for Sunday’s 1000 Guineas. If these happen to be long-priced winners, you could be looking at a very handsome reward.
꧃ Best 1000 Guineas betting site for doubles: SportNation
Forecast Betting
With forecast bets, you wager🥀 on the first two horses over the line in a nominated order in any given race, and are normally paid out according to a one-unit stake. In addition, many people choose to double their stake and lay a reverse forecast, meaning that the same two selections can finish in the top two but in any order. Like this, you'll be covered both ways.
𓂃 Best 2000 Guineas betting site for forecasts: Betfred
Placepot Betting
Placepot betting is one for the day, not the race. The idea here is that you are betting on six of that day’s races – usually the first, sometimes the last six, nominating a horse to finish among the places in each of them. This is not an accumulator, though – your stake doesn’t swell and roll on to the next race. Instead, a final figure is calculated and paid out in relation to a £1 stake.
ও A Placepot is very similar to a Scoop6; however, that is a bet where you must pick the winning horses in each of the six races at a meeting.

History of the 2000 Guineas
𝐆 The 2000 Guineas Stakes was first run on 18 April 1809 after being established by Sir Charles Bunbury, a steward of the Jockey Club. Bunbury was also the co-founder of the Epsom Derby.
The competition is named after the old coin, the guinea, which was used in England between 1663 and 1813. ‘Guineas' originates from the location the gold was sourced from – the Guinean region in Africa.
𒉰 Although guineas were discontinued in 1813, the name of the race remained unchanged. At the time, Guineas were worth one pound and one shilling, which today would make them worth around £1 and five pence.
After half a century of history, the race had established itself as one of the most important races in British horse racing.
⛎ Running on a day before its sister race (the 1000 Guineas), the 2000 Guineas takes place at the beginning of the flat season. here include Dancing Brave, Brigadier Gerard, Sea The Stars, Nijinsky and the one and only Frankel.

History of the 1000 Guineas Stakes
♏ Five years after the inaugural running of the 2000 Guineas, the 1000 Guineas race was introduced as a companion event and went off for the first time on 28 April 1814.
🔴 While the 2000 Guineas was an event for both colts as well as fillies, the 1000 Guineas was established as an event exclusively for fillies. Around the mid-1860s, both the 2000 and 1000 Guineas were considered to be two of Britain's most prestigious races for the age group and were included among the classics.
꧂ The 1000 Guineas, while being a prestigious race in its own right, can also work as a trial for another of the classics, the Oaks Stakes at Epsom on Derby weekend. The last horse to win both races was . In 2022, an extra day was added to the festival two days before the 1000 Guineas.

♒ The 2000 and 1000 Guineas Stakes are two of the most anticipated races in Britain, not just of the flat season, but of the entire horse racing year, making 1000 and 2000 Guineas betting extremely popular.
🎶 They also happen to be the first two of the five British Classics to run each season. These two Group 1 races both go off on the same course, Newmarket’s Rowley Mile, and are chased over the same distance of more than one mile. The Rowley Mile, one of three courses at Newmarket along with the July Course and the Round Course, is a straight mile that includes a famous dip.
⛄ Two furlongs out, this straight runs downhill before lifting upwards again for the last furlong. This can be testing for the horses, especially the sharp incline before the end that jockeys must prepare for, and can always be relied upon to provide a thrilling finish.
