Tournament Structure for AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am
-
The tournament works like almost all others in that, from Thursday through Sunday, players take on a round of golf daily, racking up an overall score that's applied to a leaderboard🅷. By the final few holes of the last day, a winner would usually have been found. In the same fashion as in Dunhill Links, this event also features an amateur component in which celebrities take part. The pro golfers are each paired with an amateur player, to make up 156 two-player teams. That’s 156 professionals and 156 amateurs.
-
These teams are grouped into 39 foursomes over the first three days, with 13 groups playing each day on one of three courses. On the final day, the pros, now going alone, again take on the course at the to find a winnerജ. For the professional golfers, the cut is set on the 54-hole mark, where the lowest scoring 60 players, including those that are tied, are removed from play. The celebrity amateurs do not continue on to the solo portion of the event, which reverts back to typical stroke play from the three course better ball format used for the team events.
-
The tournament has been running since 1937 under various titles and has been won by many of the game’s biggest names, including Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Mark O'Meara, Davis Love III, Jordan Spieth, and Vijay Singh. Famous amateurs that have played this event over the years include Bill Murray, Kevin Costner, Tom Brady, Justin Timberlake, Ray Romano, and Carson Daly.
-
Due to play coinciding with California’s stormy season, there have been issues in the past. In 1996, the event was cancelled altogether, while in other years, the tournament was abandoned before Sunday’s fourth day of playไ. The 2021 renewal of the Pebble Beach Pro Am went ahead in its normal place in the PGA calendar, but the amateur portion of the event was omitted due to concerns around the coronavirus.

Betting Tips & Predictions 2022
-
There is something special about Pebble Beach, and it’s not just the iconic venue. As always, there are plenty of potential winners, including the reigning FedEx Cup champion Patrick Cantlay, who continues to go from strength to strength. The American arrives at the tournament on the back of a ninth-place finish at The American Express, but he is generally very accurate with his irons. Cantlay also will have to be tight with his putting, as the putting surfaces are among the narrowest on the PGA Tour. Currently, Cantlay is trading at the favourite, and he could have a strong week.
-
Meanwhile, Cantlay’s compatriot, Daniel Berger, will have fond memories of the Pebble Beach Pro-Am after lifting the title 12 months ago﷽. Berger sealed the victory with a monster 31-foot eagle, and he’s the sort of player who doesn’t mind having to take a risk if he feels his back is against the wall. He is priced at the 14s mark with most leading bookmakers, and he could be a contender come Sunday.
-
However, Jason Day could also find himself back in the winners’ circle. It has been a long and barren four years since the Australian last tasted success on the PGA Tour, but he has been playing well as of late. Although he squandered the lead on the final day of the Farmers Insurance Open last weekend, finishing in a tie for third, Day will have learned a lot from that, and he will bounce back. He seems relatively unfancied at around the 20/1 mark with most bookies, but this could well end up being his week.

Popular AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am Betting Markets
Golf provides a fantastic number of opportunities to place bets online🧸. The very nature of the game offers a huge amount of betting opportunities over the four days of the tournament. In the case of the Pebble Beach Pro Am, there are even more betting markets than usual because of the inclusion of the amateur players. We've gone ahead and listed a small selection of these below.
Winning Margin Betting
With a winning margin bet, you don't need to nominate a winning player in your wager. This is particularly handy if you don’t have an opinion on who will win a golf tournament. All you need to do is bet on what the winning margin will be.
ꦛ Bear in mind that golf tournaments aren't normally won by a huge margin; rather, they're usually won by quite a close score. Therefore, if you want to predict a runaway victor, you may be rewarded with long odds, as the shorter odds will be around the five-stroke and lower mark.
Best betting site for winning margin: Coral
Handicaps Betting
Handicap markets are very popular among golf bettors. The whole purpose of a handicap in golf is to assign every player an equal chance of winning by giving each golfer a numbered mark. The idea here is that your pick needs to finish within their assigned number of points from the winner of the tournament.
♊ Very often, it's a wise betting strategy to pass on backing the shorter-priced favourites. Instead, look for someone who has a reasonable point mark and could outperform that score, in order to maximise profit.
Best betting site for handicaps: William Hill
Top 10 Finish Betting
In this market, you're simply placing a wager on a player to finish in the top 10 by the end of the tournament. Not to be confused with each-way betting, Top 10 Finish betting is handy for anyone that fancies a player running deep in a tourney, but isn't quite confident enough to back them for a win.
💯 Naturally, the longer the odds of the player in the outright betting, the longer their prices are likely to be in the top 10 finishers market.
Best betting site for top 10 finish: Paddy Power
To Make or Miss Out on the Cut Betting
As a tournament progresses, the field gets whittled down, and, usually, after two days of play (essentially the midway stage of the tournament), around half of the field gets cut from the competition. This is known as missing the cut. Anyone not eliminated at this point has made the cut, meaning they've qualified for the final two days of play.
ജ Naturally, bookmakers will open up and run a book on this, meaning you can bet on a player to make, or to miss out on, the cut. You can do this during the tournament as the picture becomes clearer, but the best odds will be pre-tournament and, as always, prices on the best players making the cut will be notably shorter than the prices on them missing the cut and leaving the competition early.
Best Pebble Beach Pro Am betting site for make or miss the cut: BetVictor
History of AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am
This golf tournament began all the way back in 1937, and was first hosted by singer at California's Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club in San Diego County. At the time, the White Christmas crooner invited some friends to play golf, share a clambake, and raise money for charity. Because of this, the first National Pro-Am Golf Championship was originally called the Bing Crosby National Pro-Amateur, or the Crosby Clambake. When the singer died in 1977, the tournament continued to be hosted by his family for a further eight years until 1986, after which it was rebranded and named after its new sponsor, the US communication firm AT&T Corporation.
Organised by the Monterey Peninsula Foundation, the tournament’s first ever winner was the legendary . In 1947, play was moved to the Pebble Beach Golf Links, Cypress Point Club, and , becoming a 72-hole event for the first time in 1958. The Monterey Peninsula Country Club was removed as a course of play in 1967, to be replaced by , which was itself removed in 1991 and replaced by Poppy Hills. This new third course was disliked by the players, citing poor drainage issues, and, by 2010🌳, play returned to Monterey Peninsula Country Club, where the event still takes place today.
